Flood risk consulting

Global climate change has induced changes in global rainfall patterns. Regional differences in rainfall are increasing, and localized heavy rainfall is also more frequent compared to the past data. Therefore, development of response plans to flood is becoming more important.

The objective of the flood risk consulting is to input site data (rainfall, topography, drainage system, land use) to various models such as rainfall-runoff model, GIS model to simulate floods, and to suggest safety improvement recommendations. We provide flood risk consulting services for construction sites (with temporary drainage system), operating businesses, and also for newly constructed sites.

Construction site flood risks
Construction site is analyzed in 3D and anticipated water flow is simulated to predict the location and flow rate of the entering water in case of torrential rain. Water flow simulation is used to decide the location and the capacity of the grit chamber at the construction site, as well as number of the sump pump.
Factory sites
Regional torrential rainfall patterns, drainage system, levee of river are taken into account to quantitatively predict the location and the extent of flooding. The results are used for developing response plans, as well as for purchasing loss prevention equipment, such as flood defence wall and sump pumps.
Newly constructed businesses
We evaluate the adequacy of the drainage system for newly constructed businesses. Observed rainfall often surpasses the design specification of the drainage systems. To prevent losses from flooding, it is recommended that the capacity and adequacy of the drainage systems are ensured through simulation. We also suggest height of filled up ground if needed to improve safety.
